On an otherwise boring Saturday night following and preceding way too much football seen by me this past weekend, I caught a screening of this, most likely on the giant suck that is HBO any night that's not an in-season Sunday. What can I say, I was shocked. Shocked and awed.
Rather than the standard issue plotline you might expect, intersprersed with a lot of martial-arts ass-kicking, this is a surreal tale of Jet Li and his master Bob Hoskins, who carries an emotional power over him which I hope was explained in the first ten minutes I missed, but more so, of Jet Li's relationship with a blind pianist (played by a did-you-read-the-script-before-you-signed-the-deal Morgan Freeman) and his white, teenage, um, niece? Stepdaughter? There was so much in this that didn't make any sense to me or the people I watched this with and so much that even if it made sense, would have been really frikkin wierd, that I can't not at least tell you about it. So there you have it. I guarantee you, there's a better option than this movie.
