i can say almost universally that i went to school with them. there are two people from high school and before whom i suppose i met more through church, and otherwise they are all from school connections.
What did you do this weekend?
I'll be turning 30 in November; a few of my friends already are, but not most. One of them became so on Saturday, so a few of us went from SF to Sacramento to celebrate.
Highlights of the weekend, in no particular order:
- The Sacramosa, a combination of a light, pilsner or lager style beer mixed 2:1 with lemonade. Serve chilled, and in the am.
- The Leisure Club presents: Croquet, always a good game. I had the shot of the weekend, a ten-footer that cleared the final two wickets and hit the post to win the game as opponents were lining up to finish ahead of me.
- A friend ate an entire box of tic-tacs at once; I punched him (gently) in the cheek while he was stashing them all away in there. Hilarity ensued, at least amonst the two of us.
- Seeing my friends' son, who is a little older than three. A little older than three is when kids start getting really fun, and he was no exception.
- Pirates of the Caribbean. I mean, I don't know much more about life or its meaning than I did before seeing it, but I was rightly entertained.
- Seeing a bunch of people I hadn't seen in years.
- Having a great gift idea and knowing that it will work out (in-home cooking classes, file cooking classes under your emergency gift idea list. There's a ton of different options for how this could go, and it's an especially good idea for couples).
Lowlights: Some of my friends bitched out, for reasons unknown to me but that I have a hard time imagining as anything other than weak. We were once a fierce and proud tribe of people, but those days are largely over. I'm sorry to see that people can't do something more to be a part of their friends lives. But I don't know what the reasons were and so I have to admit that maybe something more important came up, even though I'm almost certain that that's not the case.
